About The Market Local Comfort Cafe

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and two women prove that by bringing New York quality kosher cuisine to the Jewish community of Big D. Chef Jordona Kohn and co-owner Stacey Clark opened The Market Local Comfort Café in May of 2019 and have been providing a mix of east coast deli fare and traditional local East Coast comfort café food to Dallas ever since.

You feel the comfort the second you step in. From the soft velvet black chairs which complement the soft blues of the herringbone wood walls and the encaustic cement tile bar, to the hot pink stools and warm solid oak tables. Potted plants add to the atmosphere, as do the high ceilings with orb-shaped hanging lights. The Market is the perfect blend of rustic and elegant, or what the locals have nick named them; “R-ELEGANT”.

Their tag words are Local, Comfort, Café. The menu is full of comfort foods, such as breads, bagels, specialty challahs, and pastries made in their in-house bakery. Breakfast features American-style fare such as eggs, pancakes, avocado toast, 3 – days cured gravlax and in-house granola. As for local, expect a spicy southern twist such as the addition of jalapeno to some dishes. Should you want to pick your own toppings, there is a DIY omelet bar option, which lets you choose the type of cheese, vegetables, bread, and spread.

Lunch boasts specialty salads, fish dishes such as the Fish Fry, and no joke lunch sandwiches like the Salmon Sammie and the Market Po Boy, as well as a kid’s menu and a totally possible burger.

A full-service coffee bar features fare from local coffee growers, roasters, farmers, and vendors. Specialty coffee drinks on the menu include lattes, frappes, cappuccinos, and affogato, which has vanilla ice cream, espresso, house-made chocolate syrup, freshly made whipped cream, and cocoa powder.

They also have a full variety artisanal tea menu including the signature London Fog, Chai, and of course Stacey’s own iced tea recipe. The natural lemonade served with muddled strawberries is a must have in the Dallas heat. And don’t forget the Berry Lemon Nanna!

The Market has a to-go dinner service for their customers.  Each week, they provide a brand-new dinner menu which is available for pick up or for free delivery. Items like butternut squash fettuccine alfredo and crispy mirin glazed salmon are fan favorites. Each dinner has five items: main course, side dishes, and perhaps a soup or some fresh house-made focaccia cheesy garlic bread. On Fridays, they have SHABBAT POTLUCK. When you make your dinner order, you get 2 full size challahs along with your order. The Market takes care of your starter, salad, fish, sides, and challah while you take care of the chicken or meat.

The Market kitchen is 99.9% scratch made, from their salad dressing to their pastries, to the Marinara in their Eggplant Parmesan Boat to the syrup used for the coffee bar.

The Market caters too! You can rent the venue for an in-house catering event, order a to-go platter for an office event, bris or corporate meals, or arrange custom catering for a cocktail party.

Jews traveling to The DFW area or the local area living there have a reason to be grateful to The Market for feeding them kosher food and treating them like family as only a southern establishment can.
