About The Flame

Back in 2018, there were no kosher dinner places in the Catskills; vacationers had to drive to the grub. Enter Steve Gold, who had a dream to serve the bungalow family crowd. He opened The Flame, a family style in July of 2018. This full service Chinese American restaurant is self-serve and catering orders take 15 minutes or less, but don’t let the speed fool you; this isn’t fast food. Everything is made to order, and even the French fries are made with fresh cut potatoes.

Before it was The Flame, the location was a mechanic shop with garages and pitched floors for oil drainage, so when it was converted to a restaurant, garage doors were replaced with huge window bays. Everything is orange from the chairs to the 16 floating orange ceiling. The order counter is massive, and while the counters have kiosks, they are set up near the employees incase customers have questions while ordering. The indoor restaurant seats 50 or so, and there is also a side patio which seats 60.

A popular appetizer is the pulled beef tater tots which are seasoned crispy tater tots topped with pulled beef, and golden sauce/dressing. The most popular soup is the hot and sour soup.  For entrees, people go nuts for the crispy shredded beef served with white or fried rice. There are also sandwiches and grill items, such as grilled pargiot (dark chicken) and extra-large rib steak. The menu also features vegetarian options and a kid’s menu, not to mention a special Thursday night menu with cholent, kugel, yaptchik, kishka, and platters. Speaking of platters, serve a table with the rack of ribs or southern fried chicken platter. And don’t forget a drink, such as one of the home brewed beverages to compliment a churro or mini pie.

It's nice to have a friendly place nearby with Asian fusion cuisine. That’s exactly what you’ll get at The Flame, fun for the whole family!
