About Lox N Bagel

Bagels and lox are the unofficial food of the Jewish people. While ubiquitous in New York, there are only a few kosher places to get bagels in South Florida. Thankfully Ethan Beck has done his darndest to bring New York bagels to Floridian Jews. A native New Yorker himself, Beck opened Lox N Bagels in January of 2020. Since then, Jews have driven from all over Florida for that fresh bagel taste.

Lox N Bagels is a casual family-friendly café. It’s the perfect place to go hang out with the kids or pick up take-out when you don’t feel like cooking. They have sixteen different varieties of bagels, the most popular being sesame, everything, and one of three different kinds of whole wheat. Who knew there was more than one kind of whole wheat? These bagels are hand-rolled every morning, which really makes a difference to the quality. Lox N Bagels has also been known to make specialty bagels. For Rosh Hashanah, they had an apple cinnamon bagel available. They also have freshly baked challahs available for purchase. A shout-out to the staff for coming in early to hand roll those bagels and bake those challahs. They open at 7:00 a.m. and stay open until 3:00 p.m. During their off-hours, they have a robust catering service for brisim and other simchahs. They can also be booked for private parties in the evening hours.

You may be thinking, private parties in the evening; who would want bagels at night? Well, despite the name, Lox N Bagels is more than just bagels. They are a fully functioning café with a variety of breakfast and dairy options. They offer omelets, shakshuka, French toast, and pancakes (plain, with chocolate chips, or with blueberries). The kid’s menu is titled, “For the Kid in You,” because there’s no shame in wanting mac and cheese, grilled cheese, or waffles. They also have a fully stocked salad bar, with everything from egg salad to spicy tuna. Their variety of sandwiches includes both the predictable such as an egg and cheese or tuna melt, and the more surprising, such as a veggie cheese quesadilla, a beyond burger, or a breakfast burrito. “Grandma Miriam’s Toast,” has fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced tomatoes, and pesto sauce!

Speaking of pesto, Lox N Bagel has a selection of pasta dishes, as well as pizza. Bagel place or not, the pizza is as good as at any pizzeria. It’s not the frozen stuff but made from scratch and baked in a real pizza oven. It’s all Cholov Yisrael.

For drinks, there is the usual breakfast fare such as coffee and juice. The orange juice is freshly squeezed every day, and the coffee is freshly brewed. For something more adult, wine and beer are also available. Family-friendly doesn’t mean you need to bring the kids every time. Sometimes it's fun to just relax with some pizza and some wine.

The service is incredibly friendly, the atmosphere warm and welcoming. People warmed to Beck and his open personality right away. That and all the positive changes he continues to institute keep customers coming back again and again. After all, how many places in Florida can you get a good hand-rolled bagel?
