About Ess In Company

Today Chef Cari has two restaurants, two food trucks, and a catering company in Detroit, Michigan. Her story began in 2000 when Chef Cari Herskovitz Rosenbloom graduated from the Natural Gourmet Cookery Institute for Food and Healing in New York. Chef Cari founded Chef Cari Kosher Catering in 2003. Later came Wok in Cari Out (a carryout Restaurant) and Chef Cari Street Eats (food trucks). In July of 2022, Cari and Yisroel’s latest establishment opened, Ess in Co. Essen means to eat, and they’re inviting folks to Ess In with them at this fast-casual comfort and street food establishment.

Their décor is that of a farmhouse. When you walk in, you feel instantly welcomed by the raw woods, the red farmhouse wrap-around porch, barn lighting, and live wood counter bars.

Their house-made falafel and chicken shawarma, served with hummus, tahini, pickles, Israeli salad, schoog, and pickled red cabbage, are legendary. Their brined fried chicken is also a huge seller.

Surprisingly, what sells even more than the fried chicken is their creative salads, such as the Tex-Mex salad, made with romaine, fire-roasted corn, black beans, chopped tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, vegan cheddar, crunchy tortilla strips, and Tex-Mex dressing. The sesame miso chopped salad has chopped greens, red cabbage, carrots, cilantro, scallions, crispy ramen, and a sesame miso vinaigrette.

Other specialties include house-made corn dogs in Korean and Detroit style and a variety of tacos, including fish, chicken, and vegetarian (roasted sweet potato or crispy tempeh). You can’t go wrong with a peach cobbler or pecan pie for dessert.

Ess In Co. has weekly soup specials and a very authentic Israeli selection. They offer delivery and takeout. They cater and have a special Thursday/Shabbos menu.

While cultivating her skills with natural and healthy culinary techniques, Chef Cari’s gastronomy delighted folks such as Lenny Kravitz, Ralph Lauren, Candice Carpenter, Chrissie Hynde (from the rock group, The Pretenders), Ethan Bortnick, Reva La Sheva, Matisyahu, and Elie Wiesel. Chef Cari always strives to provide her clients with simple and health-conscious cuisine.
