About Marani Glatt Kosher Georgian Restaurant
Hungry for a sliver of Queens cultural history? Marani was New York’s first authentic kosher Georgian restaurant. In 2013 the owner, Ana, realized that the New York kosher scene was sorely lacking some variation. She knew how delicious Georgian cuisine is, so she decided to share it with the world.
Located in Rego Park, a neighborhood in Queens that has a significant Georgian and Russian Jewish population, Marani is a must-try. The simple but elegant blue and wooden décor is as aesthetically pleasing as their beautifully plated food.
While you may not be able to pronounce some of the names, every dish on their menu is expertly crafted to ensure your experience with Georgian cuisine is an unforgettable one. Start your meal off with the Pelmeni, a Georgian fried beef wonton topped with onions and vegetables or the Marani sampler, a choice of three Spinach with walnuts, green beans with walnuts, baby beet leaves with walnuts or red bean with walnuts which goes perfectly with the Shotis Puri, a Georgian bread. Move on to the Khinkhali, Georgian style dumplings filled with lamb, beef and herbs. Another entrée to try for an authentic Georgian taste you just can’t get anywhere else is the Chanaxi, beef braised with eggplants, potatoes and tomatoes, served in a clay pot. And you simply cannot leave without trying their homemade Napoleon for dessert. Since “marani” means “wine cellar” in Georgian, Marani has a wide selection of wines, as well as beer and specialty cocktails.
And speaking of cellars: Marani also has a small dairy section in the basement, where they serve Khachapuri, a cheese-filled bread, and other Georgian dairy delights.
RABBINICAL SUPERVISION: VHQ / Glatt / Chasidishe Shechita.
