Off the success of their Chimichurri Charcoal Chicken in Cedarhurst, NY and after revolutionizing the chicken game, the owners decided to take on Schwarma when they opened MAMOOSH next door in October of 2022.
A slang term for when you greet someone, the word MAMOOSH just sounds fun, warm and comforting, much like their restaurant and cuisine. With black tiles, red stool chairs, this a casual Mediterranean hot spot in the 5 Towns.
The star of the show is, of course, the shawarma. Layers of delicious chicken and lamb fat on top gradually dripping down, slowly spinning on rotisserie, gives it a wonderful flavor. Just close your eyes and you will feel like you are back in Israel.
The owners, Zvika Ben Yosef along with sons David and Rami, wanted to redefine the Schwarma business and they wanted to create a new way of ordering. They only have a select variety of items in their showcase on purpose. Generally, you have a large abundance of salads laying around for hours at shawarma places but they wanted to specialize in a select few and make it as fresh as can be. They only have cucumbers, tomatoes, white cabbage and pickles, those 4 items, so it cuts down on the service and wait time when ordering. They set this up for high pace, high volume and high quality, It's fast casual takeout at its best.
In addition, they have a lot of unique dips an sauce such as Toum, garlic whipped dip, olive dip, jalapeno hummus, not just you standard hummus and tahini. Their most popular dish is their Schwarma Bowl, not surprising as Portuguese Rice Bowl is highly recommended at Chimi. You get to choose your toppings and customers get to see it being made in front of them. Important to note that all the bread in made in house, from the laffa to the pita. The fluffy dough just hugs the schwarma or falafel as you're eating it. If you haven't tried it yet, you owe it to your taste buds.
